KFC Food Poisoning Case

The family of a Sydney girl is suing Kentucky Fried Chicken. They claim that she became brain damaged and crippled from salmonella poisoning after eating a Twister wrap.
Monika Samaan's family is suing the fast-food chain for $10 million after the illness developed into acquired spastic quadriplegia.
Family barrister Anthony Bartley has today told the NSW Supreme Court the Chicken Twister was bought from the Villawood KFC on in 2005, when Monika was aged seven.
Mr Bartley says there is no doubt Monika, now 11 and in a wheelchair, developed salmonella poisoning and that the chicken in the twister was the source of the bacteria.
He says the court will also hear disturbing evidence about the practices in KFC kitchens.
"There is little or no doubt that chicken was reported by all scientists, at the time of these unhappy events occurring, as being the source of that salmonella," he said.
"If the store was particularly busy, if chicken was dropped on the floor near the burger station, it would on some occasions simply be put back."
Food poisoning affects about 4 million Australians every year. Symptoms of food poisoning include vomiting, headache and stomach cramps.
